Step 1: Check the firmware

Tap Settings > Tap General > Tap About
If you are running 1.1.2, you must downgrade to 1.1.1. If you are currently running 1.1.1, skip the step below and continue reading from Step 3.

Step 2: Download files

-
1.1.1 Firmware
- 1.1.2 Firmware
- 1.1.2 Jailbreak Software

- iTunes 7.5 (Windows, only download if you need to)
-
iTunes 7.6 (Windows, only download if you need to)

-
iTunes 7.5 (Mac, only download if you need to)
-
iTunes 7.6 (Mac, only download if you need to)

Step 3: Downgrade to 1.1.1

1) Put iPod touch into recovery mode by
a. Hold Home and Power button until screen goes dark
b. Let go of Power button, but keep holding Home button
c. Continue to hold the Home button until iTunes detects the iPod is in recovery mode.

2) When iTunes opens up, click on your iPod touch on the left column,

3) Hold down the shift key and click on the “Restore” button

4) Browse for the iPod Touch firmware 1.1.1 file you downloaded and open it. It should automatically update and restart your iPod.

Step 4: Jailbreak Your iPod on 1.1.1

1) Use Safari to browse to the following website:
www.jailbreakme.com

2) Scroll Down and install AppSnapp. Your iPod will now automatically restart (if not hit the Home button on your iPod touch). Once done, you slide to unlock and you should now have the “Installer” application icon on your menu! Congratulations your are now have a jailbroken iPod touch.

3) Open Installer

4) Go to Install tab

5) Go down to Tweaks 1.1.1

6) Find OktoPrep

7) Install it!

8) Select Install tab again

9) Scroll down to System

10) Inside System find BSD Subsystem

11) Install it!

Step 5: Upgrade Firmware back to 1.1.2

1) Now Open iTunes up and click on your iPod touch on the left column.

2) Hold down the shift key and click on the “Check for Update” button.

3) Browse for the iPod touch firmware 1.1.2 zip file you downloaded and open it. It should automatically update and restart your iPod.

4) Once it is updated open Settings on the iPod

5) Go to General>Auto-Lock

6) Set it to Never

Step 6: Jailbreak Your iPod on Firmware 1.1.2

1) Open up Task Manager and kill all processes related to Apple or iPod (but make sure your iPod is still connected to your computer) .

2) If your are on a PC click on the “windows.bat”.

3) On the popup that appears, tick “Install SSH” and leave the password as the default “alpine” unless you’re are a security freak, and hit “Jailbreak!”.

4) If it says you need to install OktoPrep then you need to Downgrade iTunes to 7.5 (see Step 9 and 10)

4) Now simply wait, your iPod may boot up several times, don’t disconnect it from your computer!
Sometimes it appears to be done but there might be another boot up. So wait until all the reboots stop, i.e. until a good amount of time has passed after the last boot up before disconnecting it.

5) A message will appear on computer screen telling you that it is done jail breaking. Hit OK, wait and make sure it does not reboot again, and then disconnect it.

Step 7: Jailbreak Your iPod on Firmware 1.1.3

1) Turn on iPod

2) Connect iPod to Wifi and computer

3) Close iTunes

4) On iPod open Installer

5) Go to Install tab

6) Click System

7) Click Official 1.1.3 Upgrader

8) Click Install

9) Press Home Button

10) Wait for SpringBoard to restart

11) Open Upgrade

12) JailBreak it!

Step 8: Install App Pack for free

1) After you have Jailbroken 1.1.3 using steps above open Installer

2) Go to Sources Tab

3) Click Edit

4) Click Add

5) Type in
http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml

6) Click Add

7) Wait for it to refresh then go to Install tab

8) Scroll down to iPhone 1.1.3 Applications

9) Install them!

Step 9: Downgrade iTunes (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU NEED TO!)

1) Download iTunes 7.5

2) Uninstall iTunes 7.6

3) Install iTunes 7.5

4) When you open iTunes after you install 7.5 HOLD THE SHIFT KEY

5) On the window that pops up click Create New Library (This won't erase your old one)

6) Now you can upgrade your iPod to 1.1.2

Step 10: Upgrade back to iTunes 7.6 (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU DID THE STEP ABOVE)

1) Download iTunes 7.6

2) Uninstall iTunes 7.5

3) Install iTunes 7.6

4) When you open iTunes hold the Shift key and on the window that pops up click Choose Library

5) Choose your OLD library with all your music

6) Enjoy!

You should now have 1.1.3 Jailbroken with everything working!!
You can install apps to you hearts content!

Update: Do not install SummerBoard unless you want to restore!!
Customize works though

Update 2: I have updated the guide so it doesn't include the iJailBreak step.
You should have no problems this time, as this one worked perfectly for me!

Update 3: The guide has been updated again with a new way of Jailbreaking. This should work perfectly. Also It has a new method of installing 1.1.3 apps.

Update 4: The guide has been updated to include iTunes 7.5 and to turn Auto Lock off
